Poodle Breed Characteristics

Poodles are one of the most recognizable dog breeds in the world. They have a unique look, with their curly coats and signature “topknot” hairstyle. But, they are more than just a dog with a pretty face. They are also dogs that make great family pets, full of intelligence, loyalty, and energy.

Poodles come in a variety of sizes, colors, and coat lengths. There are three normal sizes: standard, miniature, and toy. The most common size is the standard, which stands around 15 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 40 and 70 pounds (18 to 31 kg). Miniatures are slightly smaller, standing 10 to 15 inches tall (25 to 38 cm) and weighing between 10 and 15 pounds (4.5 to 6.8 kg). Toy Poodles are the smallest, standing up to 10 inches tall (25 cm) and weighing 4 to 6 pounds (1.8 to 2.7 kg).

Poodles are highly trainable and make excellent watchdogs as well as loving family companions. They tend to be very attentive and eager to please, but also have a playful side. They need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation such as obedience classes, agility courses, trick training, scent work games, and puzzle toys. Regular walks and games are essential for keeping their minds active and engaged and keeping them happy and healthy.

In short, these wonderful dogs make great companions for all kinds of owners. With their intelligence, loyalty and devotion, it is easy to see why they are one of the world’s most beloved breeds.
